Awesome information using managed code to program against the GPS device in your Windows Mobile device from Jon Box. From Managed GPS on BlackJack II: Managed GPS The WM6 SDK has a managed code sample, in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\Samples\Smartphone\CS, called GPS. Originally, this showed up in the WM5 SDK. Anyway, this is a C# solution, named GPS, and comes with two projects, 1) GPS, a .NET CF application project, and 2) a child project that is the managed wrapper of the GPS...
I visited MapMyRide several months ago while looking for good GPS/cycling mashups. Back then I remember thinking that there was promise. I ultimately decided on Gmap Podometer for my map making needs - which is basically limited to bicycling routes. Looks like MapMyRide has gone through a major upgrade into the Web 2.0 world. Wow have they changed! Yesterday Lifehacker had a post about the new mapmyride.com so I went to take a look. I see awesome stuff just perusing the menus. Tons of promise here....
I know I didn't start out cycling with a helmet - back in the day (late 70s through most of the 80s) most kids didn't wear helmets. To make matters worse all the cool road racers just wore those little paper-fabric caps. I did, too. Of course there was the time in 8th grade where I had to spend a couple/few days in the hospital after a pretty bad crash on my BMX bike. I flew over my handlebars, down an embankment of about 10 feet and landed on my head, or so I'm told as I still have no memory of...
Looks like a very cool donation-ware application. GooPs Features: Fast Real-Time Tracking/Navigation (typically less than 1 second from when received from GPS). Track yourself AND your friends (requires that they be "visible" on your network). SpeedTrack - track color shows how fast you are going any place on your trip. AutoView - custom hands free tilt, rotation, and zoom – no more fussing with controls while driving. Supports full native Google Earth navigation - no need for secondary navigation...
I saw this on Scott Hanselman's blog Computer Zen in the post titled Web 2.0 Explained in Video by Michael Wesch I've watched the video three times now. Very cool. It really started me thinking about the future of technology, the future of the web, the future of information and the future that our kids will enjoy (or despise). Convergence of meat space and the virtual world. I already connect many real-word activities to the Internet - like bicycling. I love to upload my GPS tracks to MotionBased...
Awesome ride today. I want to try to stress how big of a deal this ride was to me. Typically I throw my bike into/onto a vehicle to get down into and back out of the valley. Today I rode up the hill from the valley back to my house. That was a huge deal for me. It is not nearly L'Alpe D'Huez (roughly 8.5 miles, 3650 vertical feet) but our little hill (roughly 3/4 mile, 350 vertical feet) has been a huge psychological barrier for me. Yes you serious cyclists will laugh at the piddly little gain -...
